Árhús is located on road 1, the ring road, less than 100 km southeast of Reykjavík in the heart of south Iceland. We offer cabin and campsite rentals, and an RV area. Árhús Restaurant serves a rich variety of local plates and global favourites. All cottages have private WCs and showers. The separate Árhús service building has a communal kitchen, and a dining area for campers and those with RVs. Guests can also enjoy free Wi-Fi in public areas. The natural wonders of South Iceland are within reach. Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork, Emstrur and Seljalandsfoss are 20 – 50 km. away. The golden circle, Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir are only about an hour away. Árhús is the Base Camp in South Iceland for travellers that are actively exploring the country on their own terms.
The staff of Árhús is familiar with the hiking trails in South Iceland. Especially those that are nearby. Laugavegur, from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork is, of course, the most popular one. Also, there are hiking trails in Thorsmork that we have helped hikers with, from Thorsmork to Alftavatn and to Fjallabak. One of the most popular hiking trails in the south is also around Hekla Volcano, and we have the trails marked through GPS.
At Árhús we have cooperation with the main bus companies that operate in South Iceland, thereby connecting our accommodation to Landmannalaugar, Thorsmork, and Skogafoss. If you stay at our Base Camp Landmannalaugar, you have connections to all the main sights in South Iceland.
One of the most ancient forms of sightseeing in Iceland is on the back of the Icelandic horse. In South Iceland we have many horse rentals that offer the best guided tours. The seasoned guides can take you on some famous tours around the highlands or, if you prefer, around the local area.
Mountain Biking is becoming increasingly popular in Iceland due to the number of great tracks available and their ease of access, for example, biking around Hekla or Fimmvörðuháls.
